Why do you love working with the elderly?

These people can all teach us so much. I feel like they are living encyclopaedias of everything. Also they do tend to be direct and come to the point, cutting the c***!! I am autistic and really prefer that communication style, even if it is something like I have a big bum (yes, that happened)!!!!

What do you do in your spare time?

I have 4 different jobs, I am a specialist autism trainer for Autism Hampshire and an Autism Ambassador for Hampshire. I teach yoga a lot and spend a lot of time learning and topping up skills. With the time I have left, I devote myself to my family, husband and Monkey and Penguin my furry babies

What Inspires you?

It’s a very cheesy answer but I have to say my mum. She’s been my absolute rock my whole life and seeing her reach her goals both professional and personal inspires me to be like her and always be striving for success.

Why the Chair Yoga Club?

As a sports therapist my usual clientele tends to be people in pain or people with an injury. Therefore I thought, why not use these skills and just adapt them for an older generation and keep them active, healthy and pain free for as long as possible!

Why do you like working with the elderly?

Before I graduated I worked as a health care assistant for 5 years and absolutely loved spending time with the residents, learning about their lives, families and what made them tick. Therefore it was an easy choice to go back to working with care homes as I feel you’re able to see how it can make a positive impact on their lives.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time you’ll either find me out walking my dog “Hendricks”, riding my pony “Blue” or playing hockey. All things that I absolutely love doing!

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

When I was younger I always wanted to be able to fly, I think now it would be to time travel so I could go back and cherish some moments more than I did.

Fun, Cheeky, Understanding

Why do you like working with the elderly?

My favourite one to one session every week is a client who turned 80 this year. Our session is always full of laughter and some eyebrow raising stories (from her). I love how she always says she feels so much better after our sessions and that over the last 6 year they have made a real difference to her health. Feeling better and having fun is such an important part of movement for the older population.

What do you do in your spare time?

“Taxi driver” to my two girls who perform in musical theatre, go on walks with my Cocker Spaniel Mollie, enjoy live music with husband, meet up with friends for walks, spa days and lunches. I love to exercise including fitness boxing, strength training and also I attend sound baths and breathwork sessions since restorative activities are just as important as the more strenuous ones.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

I would love to be able to fly, not only so I could see a close friend in New Zealand more often but also as my view of the world would be fascinating from the air.

Joyful, Nurturing, Inclusive

Why do you like working with the elderly?

There is so much to learn from the many life stories you hear along the way. I learn and relearn on a regular basis, from people with much more experience in life than me, ‘don’t take life too seriously and make the most of every minute!’ Through Chair Yoga and singing for people living with dementia and their family and carers, there is often alot of fun, cheekiness and laughter too.

What do you do in your spare time?

Not exactly spare time, but other than Yoga teaching, I am a Laughter Yoga teacher, sing at sessions for people living with dementia, and work as a Character Performer on events linked to a well known children’s show. Am also just returning to teaching children’s music classes. I have the best jobs in the world as they are all about sharing wellbeing, joy and connection!
I love spending time with my beautiful family and friends, travelling and discovering new places and experiences with them. Also love walks and hanging out with our big Goldendoodle, Otis.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

To be able to alter time. I always want more time with my loved ones and to fit in life’s many experiences! To create more hours in the day when I want or need it would be the ultimate superpower.
